When I went to high school summer vacation included the entire month of August. We didn’t return to School until the first week of September. There was even a song by a group called the Happenings, See You in September. But that’s no longer the case; kids today start back in June, July, or early August. Regardless of how odd it seems to someone who remembers when summer vacation was all summer long—it makes sense. Originally the summer vacation schedule was fitted to an agrarian culture. The kids were needed on the farm until harvest was in.
